Innovations in Agribusiness and value chain development: A Case of Haas Avocado and Macadamia

Agriculture has been the backbone of Uganda’s economy, contributing to over 70% of employment opportunities and more than 25% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).  Against this backdrop, National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) has been spearheading the development of innovative and sustainable agricultural practices to boost productivity, promote value chain development, and improve smallholder farmers’ livelihoods.

NAADS will spearhead a panel discussion session on “Innovations in Agribusiness and value chain development: A Case of Haas Avocado and Macadamia.” The session will take place on Saturday, May 6th, 2023, from 2 pm to 4 pm at KCCA Grounds Lugogo, as part of the East African Business Expo 2023.

Madam Fatuma Kazigazi, the Agribusiness Development Officer at NAADS, will be a keynote speaker at the panel discussion session. Fatuma is a seasoned agribusiness expert with a wealth of experience in agribusiness and value chain development.

During the session, Fatuma will dive into the new government intervention for Hass Avocado and Macadamia, highlighting the distinct aspects of value chain development and promotion of these commodities. Participants can expect to acquire knowledge about innovations in agribusiness and information on the best practices for promoting these crops, as well as market information and B2B direct linkages and connections.

NAADS hopes that the session will equip participants with the necessary knowledge and information to tap into the potential of Hass Avocado and Macadamia as a potential source of stable revenue for the country.

NAADS, a government-led initiative in Uganda, aims to improve agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods through the provision of agricultural advisory services. The program promotes the adoption of modern farming practices, access to agricultural inputs and technologies, and improving the quality and quantity of agricultural production.

The session is free and open to everyone, from farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs to policymakers and researchers. It is an opportunity to embrace these crops and transform livelihoods through agriculture.
